  2. Hi Mariam, I really like this-but just be careful because there are parts that sound just like the model one that I handed out to you guys. I would also take a real example like John Humphries that you have in your pack in which he argues that texting is dumbing down and ruining the English language. You could argue whether this is actually a real argument as the English language is and always has been a fluid language and had adapted and changed over the course of more than 1500 years, texting is just one of these adaptations. Also, I would start with a statement that is closer to your question of public attitudes: "Although texting and text talk can be argued to have become ingrained into our everyday language, it is a topic of much controversy. There are differing public attitudes towards it....."
    You get the drift.
We'll sit down over lunch and talk it through,

  5. Mariyam, this is so much better, well done. There is clear evidence of analysis of spoken language choices, clear awareness of public attitudes and you analyse and evaluate with the notion of public attitudes in mind throughout. I would place it in B5, the only thing that's an issue is it's a tiny bit short, but it still deserves B5 for sure.

Good stuff, keep this up and if you can, post up your Of Mice and Men so I can read it up here before tomorrow,

    1. It's explore varieties and variations in text messaging. I would compare two text from different age groups to reflect sociolect variation and analyse what aspects make them different eg variation in use of emotions or abbreviation, and why do they adopt these variations. What does variety reveal about texting and what does the general public think of texting?
Could you tell Mr Hill's group? I know some of them will be coming to the session on Wednesday...

  9. Deliverance
I hear the strum of a guitar it hurt my heart to see that it was the detestable city folk thinking they could come on our territory, were they delusional? No one could play better than me. I began to strum my microscopic banjo strings, this was our land and I would show them who was boss.
He strummed his guitar and I copied he looked up and smiled I saw his pearly white teeth looking at me as he waited for me to continue. He was playing a tune I was very familiar with; did he think I could not play? I laughed, these city folk were living a fake and expensive dream they didn’t know the real world, they didn’t know what we were capable of. What I was capable of.
I played and then he played I could tell by the way he had to kept on looking down and the way he placed his fingers that he was an amateur, he was no competition I smiled at the thought. He came closer and shouts something that I didn’t hear, I began to play faster and watch him squirm under the speed I had put in to play. He tried to play faster a smirk appeared on my face as he was trying so hard to keep up and it was effortless for me. Victory was mine it was obvious.
City folk thinking they are always better and superior then the rest thinking that because they have cars and money it can get them everywhere and anywhere. The treacherous smell of perfume overpriced clothing and fancy cars to portray a façade of perfection.
While I analysed these folk I had forgotten about the battle to victory. He was catching up with me, I squinted my eyes and increased my speed defeat was not an option. I could see he was trying to create a friendship with me; I will not be disgraced in my own land not to this city folk.
    “I’m lost” he said.
This is when victory was mine and a smirk appeared on my lips, no one challenges me in my territory I finished what was left of the song and he laughed and said
“I could play all day with that guy”
It ended with smiles all round he stuck his hand out and I stared at it, I was ripping his fingers out of their sockets in my head I tuned away from it and my mind was bombarded with idea’s. Oh these city folk will pay and they won’t even see it coming!
